As fashionistas are well aware, Paris Couture Week is happening right now with NYFW trailing shortly behind its silk organza train. As I write this, lithe models are traipsing down mystical runways donning the most intricately embellished gowns the world will see all year. As an admirer from afar, I ponder the wave of inclusivity the fashion industry has experienced over the past decade, thanks (in no small part) to social media. Obviously this is a far cry from bygone eras, where only elite socialites, celebrities, and fashion royalty could attend the shows. Thinking about this shift in perspective within the industry makes me optimistic for the year ahead in hopes that other industries, cities, and countries will follow suit if they haven’t already. After all, in the words of Coco Chanel, “In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.”
