My earliest memory of dressing up for the holidays is of my mom and I racing to see the Nutcracker for the first time when I was seven-years-old. We were running a few minutes late, as most women in my family typically do, and we stopped to get McDonald’s french fries on our way to the ballet (how very Carrie & Aleksandr of us). What I remember most is holding her hand, while dressed in a long sleeved, black velvet dress accompanied by ribbed white tights, black patent Mary Janes, and a black satin bow in my hair (hello, 1998).
Dressing up for the holidays is something I’ve looked forward to since that day. This year––just as I did when I was seven––I’m leaning towards dressing in fanciful fabrics like this faux-feather bolero and emerald silk dress; playing up the glamour of the season with minimal gold accessories. After all, the season of silver and gold only comes once a year.
Hope your holiday season is off to a magical start!
